rihanna black long hairstyleThe black women hairstyles of today are slowly getting merged into the mainstream. This does not mean that overnight, all those tight braids, beans and pearls have vanished and all are in favor of the long tresses. We still have the crazy braids and the broomsticks among them, but as technology grows faster than the hair that it is developed for, and the availability of that technology and the sophisticated machinery for treating different and difficult hair, much of the thick, springy, original hair are making themselves submissive, and get straightened from the root level outwards.Just get a new fresh black hairstyle.

Short haircuts for black women

black women short haircutsThese days the most popular black hairstyles for women do have a wide range. This variety in the range, applies to all the three broader classifications, the short, the medium and the long ones. Short styles were there, since time immemorial, but medium and longer varieties are made possible by the latest hair straightening techniques that are capable of keeping the hair straightened for a longer time than what it was possible earlier. The short razor-cuts and cornrows involve designs of shaves done into the hair growth and scalp. Braids and dreadlocks also form the bulk of the many leading creative hairstyles in the shorter versions of the black hairstyles.

The longer hair is essentially done in iron and the latest availability of technology make it stay that way. The ‘let it be’ hairstyles of the Elvis’s 60s and 70s are definitely making their way hard under the hot irons and would never again go back to their natural coil-spring-like tendencies. As their hard fought acceptance in the higher levels of society is like a flag flying in the gentle summer breeze, a model theme for every American, their long hair flows with layers making it bounce along like a bubbly baby. 1. whatever happened to locks? why must black women today continue to feel that their hair is ‘difficult’ or ‘wrong’? why cant we simply keep our lovely, unique texture rather than desiring the hair that falls relentlessly flat and straight upon our caucasian neighbors’ heads? yet another sign of self-hate and depression in our society…

  2. i love this style !!! -mia F.

  3. Black women are diverse and have the freedom and right to exercise natural, and other hair styles, no on has the right to tell black women how to do their hair; quit putting them in a box of being the same! It’s not about hate, it’s about liberation very limited minded.

  4. one little problem, I know wigs are the most fast and easy way to go in these days specially if you are a busy women, but there are some of us that still like to wear our own hair becauce wig don’t fit any body, I don’t think it looks good on me, but the beauty salon they can hook some fake hair/ wigs but when its time to do real hair they are slacking, I haven’t found yet a hair dresser that can do my hair and I be happy with it, but don’t get me wrong I save a lot of money by doing my own hair, but I like to see how it looks and the women that wear it well.

  5. Not everyone loves locs and locs have to be trained and cultivated. IT is NOT a natural style. lol. Furthermore cultivating locs is very time consuming unless you are really au naturel and have DREADLOCKS–which I highly doubt. On the other hand, we live in a trend based society and our hairstyles fall under trends as well . If the trend is for long silky hair then that is what people will aspire to have , whether it is natural or not. This transcends color. Your statement “loc lover” implies that all “caucasions” have “flat and straight” and/or long hair which is NOT true and never will be–however , since that is a bit of a trend, white and black women acquire extensions, perms or whatever is necessary to attain that kind of style. Black women need to be careful of making statements that suggest tht hatred of our selves is why we wear certain hairstyles. It is a gross misstatement and in and of itself suggests a deeper hate and mis-education. We cannot continue to seperate ourselves from the masses. African Americans , whom I speak of, are HUGE consumers and followers of trends. Do not mistake that for racial disparity. It is not and keeping that belief amongst ourselves is what encourages other races to ridicule us for the same. If you make that kind of blanket statement then you must also question why some Black men or Black people prefer lighter skin over dark or why Balck men partner with White women or other races who have silkier hair textures, light or white skin and more “acceptable” physical characteristics than Black women do ? Are you willing to address that ? I doubt it.

  6. To all the women/men who constantly think that when black women relax or weave their hair they are trying to imitate caucasian hair… just FYI… has any of you ever seen the beautiful, long, thick and shiny hair that African women from Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, and parts of Kenya have?? I guess not… and good hair, just like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder so every woman should have the freedom to do whatever they like with their hair… whatever makes them feel beautiful.
